# Directions:
01 - In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
02 - Incorporate the egg and vanilla extract into the mixture, stirring until fully combined.
03 - Gradually add the flour and salt to the wet ingredients, mixing gently until a dough forms.
04 - Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
05 - Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
06 - On a lightly floured surface, roll the chilled dough to a thickness of about 1/5 inch (5 mm).
07 - Use heart and star-shaped cookie cutters to cut out shapes, making a small hole near the top of each for threading ribbons.
08 - Place the shapes on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
09 - Transfer cookies to a wire rack and allow to cool completely.
10 - Mix powdered sugar with lemon juice or water until smooth and spreadable, adding food coloring if desired.
11 - Spread or pipe the icing on the cooled cookies and allow to set completely.
12 - Once dry, thread decorative ribbons through the holes and tie into bows.
