Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour: 2 1/4 cups (280 g)
  • Baking powder: 1 1/2 tsp
  • Ground cinnamon: 1/2 tsp
  • Salt: 1/4 tsp
  • Unsalted butter: 1/2 cup (115 g), at room temperature
  • Granulated sugar: 3/4 cup (150 g)
  • Eggs: 2 large
  • Vanilla extract: 1 tsp
  • Dried apples: 3/4 cup (90 g), chopped
  • Soft caramel candies: 1/2 cup (100 g), chopped
  • Caramel sauce (optional): 1/3 cup (60 g), for drizzling

Instructions

Prep Oven and Pans:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
Cream Butter and Sugar:
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Add vanilla extract.
Combine Wet and Dry:
Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
Add Apples and Caramel:
Fold in chopped dried apples and caramel candies.
Shape and Bake Logs:
Divide dough in half. Shape each half into a log about 12 inches long and 2 inches wide on the prepared baking sheet. Flatten slightly.
First Bake:
Bake for 25 minutes until lightly golden. Remove from oven and cool for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 325°F (160°C).
Slice:
Using a serrated knife, slice logs diagonally into 3/4-inch-thick dunkers. Place cut side down on baking sheet.
Second Bake:
Bake 12 minutes, flip, and bake 8–10 minutes more until crisp and dry. Cool completely on wire rack.
Drizzle (Optional):
If desired, drizzle cooled dunkers with caramel sauce before serving.
